Litz, The Opera Lady

What she’s been up to lately…

Here are some of the events which have kept your Bodacious Diva busy for the last couple of years!

This is, of course, in addition to her weekly concerts at Maiden Lane, The Cannery, et al.

Litz had been given the first Sunday of every month at Martuni's to from last July through this past week to host her own show from 7 to 9pm! Opera! Show Tunes! International Folk! Parodies!

January's theme was "International Twelfth Night"

The Litz Plummer show - Twelfth Night/ Winter Holiday Songs - All of the Spirit, None of the Stress!

This month I invited the guitar-slinging Genghis Kath and the indomitable accordion-playing lunch lady Kielbasia to be my guests, with the fantastic Tom Shaw on piano!

As you can see above, this was my Twelfth Night/ Winter Holiday show, featuring lovely Christmas and winter-themed music from around the world, some parodies that shouldn't be missed, and some personal favorites that are worth hearing one more time before we pack away the decorations and close out the Holiday season! I had some lyric sheets available for sing-alongs for folks who were willing to join in. The point of the evening was to have fun, relax, laugh, and experience some seasonal beauty!

Sunday, January 6th, 2008, 7-9 p.m. -- Martuni's

4 Valencia (at Market St.). $5.00 cover.

August was a busy time for Litz. Here are the public events that featured her:

Litz sang as guest vocalist for DANUBIUS! on Monday, August 6th at 7:00 PM - Le Bateau Ivre at 2629 Telegraph Ave. Berkeley, California 94704

The members of Danubius have lived in and studied the music of Hungary and Romania. They employ that background, and such instruments as the Hungarian concert-size cimbalom (hammered dulcimer) and Romanian fluier (flute), to present the deeply soulful melodies and dances of Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Macedonia, and Russia. These rich melodies are performed in their traditional ethnic forms enlivened by the performing artists' interpretative vitality. The result is an emotive tapestry of sounds that preserves the distinct character of each musical style, including regional Gypsy music.

David Skuse, violin, prim, dumbek; Jutka Mandoki, accordion, cimbalom; Barbara Deutsch, clarinet, soprano and alto saxophone, fluier ; Lea Ivanovic, string bass, utogardon; Cooper Gorrie, tambura, guitar. Also featuring guest vocalist Litz ("The Opera Lady") Plummer, soprano.

This was the farewell concert for our bassist, Lea Ivanovic, who is leaving to study in the Masters Program of the Manhattan School of Music in New York. Leaving with her is our guitarist, Cooper Gorrie.

Thursday, August 9th, 2007 at 9:00 PM - The Eagle Tavern at the corner of 12th and Harrison, San Francisco, California. Description: Litz performed opera and standards, with Joe Collins accompanying on piano. Also on the bill were ALL MY PRETTY ONES and CARLETTA SUE KAY.

The Roxie Theater on Thursday, July 19th was her solo showcase to benefit the Castro Lions and the many charities they support. The show, entitled "Story Time with The Opera Lady," was an evening filled with music and a unique look at the twisted plots of 10 of her favorite operas!

-----------------------------

The DeYoung Museum evening event for their exhibit of Vivienne Westwood: 36 Years in Fashion! My special event evening was Friday, April 13th, beginning at 6:30pm. I was blessed with a live accompanist that night - none other than the incomparable Trauma Flintstone!

The Eagle Tavern on Thursday, April 12th for the Big Ass Party presented by the Castro Lions to benefit the Lyon-Martin Women's Health Clinic. Show started at 9pm, Ms. HeartThrob competition was at 11pm. I sang solo, co-hosted, and performed with the Maniac Martyrs.

Katya Presents..... at Martuni's on Sunday, March 18th from 7pm to 9pm. It was a fabulous show!

Trauma Flintstone's Bijou at Martuni's on Sunday, March 11th from 7pm to 9pm. The theme for the evening's show was non-piano accompaniment, so Kath Dudek accompanied my set on Guitar. I also performed at two other Bijou nights, the Christmas Show for 2006 and also the January 2007 Bijou of obscure songs.

The CalTrain station on Tuesday, March 6th from 6:30am to 9:15am. Early birds, this one was for you!

2006 saw me at several venues (Café Flore, Marlena’s, Bench and Bar, et al) around the city and across the Bay for the Desperate Divas Drag Calendar to benefit the Aids Housing Alliance.

I also performed at the Castro Lion’s Drag-a-Thon at Marlena’s in June, 2006.

Last year I joined a friend of mine in forming the Maniac Martyrs, a loosely organized group of musicians creating industrial electronic music. If you like industrial, edgy stuff bordering on the profane, then cut and paste the following link. Here is the url: http://www.myspace.com/maniacmartyrs. WARNING: This is not my usual material, and some of it may offend you. In fact, if it doesn’t, then the driving creative force behind the band, Brit Zane, has not done his job!

I performed at The Eagle Tavern for Papawheelie's Birthday Party on Wednesday, April 27th at 8pm. I also performed there on November 5th at 9:30pm for Ghenghis Kath's Birthday Party. They were both great fun!

I gave a concert at the Berkeley Public Library in the Berkeley Public Library's Noontime Concert Series on June 9th, 2005. I got great feedback on the fact that I gave a short summary of each pertinent opera and a rough translation of each aria before I sang it. I am happy to say that there are several more fans of opera after that concert!

Early in 2005, SPARK highlighted Street Artists in San Francisco, an episode which originally aired on April 20th, 2005. The program aired again on KQED San Francisco channel 9 on Wednesday, August 24th at 7:30 pm, Friday, August 26th at 11pm, and again on Sunday, August 28th at 10:30pm.
